Masahi Katayama

MASAHI KATAYAMA Japan (j,d,e,r)

The virtuoso pianist is an expert in Russian piano music interpretation. As a sought-after pedagogue he is piano professor at the University of Arts in Osaka/Japan.

This successful pianist was born in Japan. He studied piano performance at the University of Music “Mozarteum” in Salzburg. He continued his studies at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and graduated at the University of Music and Drama in Hannover/Germany. The virtuoso pianist is prize winner of several international competitions such as „Citta di Senigallia“, „F. Busoni“ (Bolzano) und „Marguerite Long“ (Paris). More than 50 recitals per year as well as numerous CD productions (f. e. Skrjabin and Mussorgsky) show his artistic activities. Besides his pianistic career Masahi Katayama is in great demand as a pedagogue. First he had a position as an assistant of the well known pianist Andrei Gavrilov at the University of Music in Hannover. Currently he is a piano professor at the University of Arts in Osaka/Japan. He is frequently invited to hold masterclasses in Japan and abroad.

Jean Müller

JEAN MÜLLER Luxemburg (d,e,f)

Jean Muller was born in Luxembourg 1979. At the age of 6, he startet playing the piano. His studies brought him to Riga, Bruxelles, Paris and Munich. His tachers were, besides his father, Evgeni Moguilevski, Eugen Indjic, Gerhard Oppitz and Michael Schäfer. He took master classes with Anne Queffélec, Leon Fleischer a. o.

Since 1994, Muller received several honourings and awardings, first prizes at the competitions, „Concours Jean Françaix“( Arcachon), „Concours Poulenc“ (Limoges) a. o. He is also a prize winner at „Tribune Internationale des Jeunes Interprètes“ (UNESCO). Jean Muller appears at international concert halls such as Megaron Athen, Forbidden City Concert Hall Beijing, Philharmonie Luxembourg, Luzern, Arsenal Metz, Philharmonie München, Salle Cortot Paris, Liederhalle Stuttgart and at international festivals (Festival Echternach, Festival A*Devantgarde Munich, Festival de Saintes, KotorArt, Incontri pianistica di Cosenza, Piano Texas). As a soloist, he performs with renowned orchestras like Münchner Symphoniker, Bayerisches Staatsorchester, Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Solistes Européens Luxembourg. Highlights of his repertoire are the 32 piano sonatas by Beethoven, which he recently performed in Luxembourg. Jean Muller is a piano professor at the music conservatory in Luxembourg.

Susanna Spaemann

SUSANNA SPAEMANN Germany/Austria (d,e)

The versatile pianist and highly experienced pedagogue lays particular emphasis upon the individuality of each student. She ist the artistic director of the masterclass programme "Vienna Young Pianists".

Susanna Spaemann was born in Muenster/Germany. At the Mozarteum Academy in Salzburg, Austria, she studied piano performance a. o. with Anton Czizek.She received further artistic and pedagogic impulses at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Harald Ossberger and Klára Harrer-Baranyi. Susanna Spaemann concertises extensively,throughout Europe, the USA and Japan, as a chamber musician and lied accompanist as well as a piano duo partner together with her husband, Stephan Möller. In 2000, she was appointed as piano professor at the Prayner Conservatory of Music and Drama in Vienna, Austria. Much in demand as a pedagogue for exceptionally gifted young students, she is frequently invited to hold masterclasses and to act as a jury member in various piano competitions. Among her students there are several prize winners of national and international competitions. Susanna Spaemann is artistic director of the masterclass programme “Vienna Young Pianists”.

Berthold Foeger


The prominent jazz pianist offers an individual approach to help the student discover a freedom at the keyboard. He has an outstanding ability to enthuse the young musicians.

Berthold Foeger was born in Upper Austria, where he began a classical piano training at an early age. He studied jazz piano at the Vienna Conservatory with Harald Gansberger. Numerous appearances with 'Half an Octet', Acoustic Jazz Trio' Berthold Foeger Trio', 'Flauto di Jazz' formed the basis of his career. The broad spectrum of his work encompasses both jazz ensemble and collaboration with cabaret artists and actors such as Robart Kolar. He is also a successful author for the stage and has written for the Graumanntheater, the Kabarett Simpl and the Ensemble of the Kulisse Theatre. He is a founding member of the cabaret ensemble 'Heilbutt & Rosen'. Berthold Foeger has been teaching jazz piano at the Prayner Conservatory in Vienna since 2001, and at the Vienna Conservatory since 2003.

Jorge Sanchez-Chiong

JORGE SÁNCHEZ-CHIONG Venezuela/Austria (e,g,s)

The acclaimed Venezuelan composer leads us on an a journey through the immense musical diversity of our time. Whoever accompanies him will be encouraged to explore hidden aspects of music.

Jorge Sánchez-Chiong was born in Venezuela. He received his musical education at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with F. Burt and M. Jarrell. Sánchez-Chiong is regarded as one of Austria’s leading composers. Many of his works have been written in commission to international music festivals and ensemles for Contemporary Music, and have been performed by renowned soloists, ensembles and orchestras throughout Europe, Asia, America and Australia. As a turntable artist he has performed together with various interpreters on the international improvisation scene, as well as a soloist with ensemble and orchestra. He also works in the field of experimental theatre, video art, dance performance and sound installation. Since 1997 Jorge Sánchez-Chiong has been working intensively with young musicians in contemporary music and improvisation workshops.
